In today’s frantic environment, providers simply cannot afford network outages. Patient care and security depend on many devices and systems staying connected with each other. Business continuity is also a HIPAA requirement.
HIPAA rules state that providers must have “procedures to enable continuation of critical business processes for protection of the security of electronic protected health information while operating in emergency mode [and] to restore any loss of data.” Compliance with this rule requires comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Additionally, data travels at the speed of light between a dizzying array of people, machines and even “things”. Maintaining constant connectivity has become mission critical. Plus, patient welfare and their health information depend on it.
